FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Everything you need to know about Kickbox Bootcamp

Getting Started

What is Kickbox Bootcamp?

+

Kickbox Bootcamp is a workout app that generates structured training routines combining boxing, kickboxing, and bodyweight exercises into dynamic sets. Unlike follow-along videos or traditional classes, the app algorithmically builds unique workouts with over 6 million possible configurations — so no two sessions are the same. It features voice-guided coaching, detailed workout tracking, and over 110 exercises across three difficulty levels.

Do I need any equipment to use the app?

+

No. Every exercise can be performed equipment-free using shadowboxing or light dumbbells. If you have a boxing bag, you can enable the Boxing Bag toggle in Workout Setup and the app will adapt exercise descriptions to include bag-specific techniques.

What are the different difficulty levels?

+

There are three difficulty levels:

  • Beginner — Perfect for those new to boxing and kickboxing. Focuses on basic techniques with lower intensity.
  • Intermediate — Builds on the basics with more complex combinations and increased intensity.
  • Advanced — Intense workouts for experienced athletes with challenging exercises and higher rep counts.

You choose your difficulty level during workout setup, and the app selects exercises appropriate for that level.

How do I set up my first workout?

+

When you first open the app, an onboarding tutorial walks you through the setup process step by step. You'll choose your workout duration, set type, difficulty, and other preferences. Once configured, tap "Generate Workout" to create your session, preview it, and start training.

Workouts

Why is every workout different?

+

The app uses an algorithm that combines your chosen settings — duration, difficulty, set type, focus mode, equipment preference, and more — to randomly select and arrange exercises from a database of over 110 movements. With all the possible combinations of exercises, set structures, and configurations, there are over 6 million unique workout configurations.

What are the different set types?

+

The app offers five set types, each with a different training structure:

  • Continuous — Perform exercises one after another for the full set duration. No built-in rest between exercises within the set.
  • Interval — Alternating work and rest periods (e.g., 45 seconds on, 15 seconds off). Great for building endurance.
  • Pyramid — Three exercises (one boxing, one kickboxing, one bodyweight) performed with ascending reps in the UP set, then the same three exercises repeated with descending reps in the DOWN set.
  • Wave — Three exercises performed in a wave pattern with varying intensity levels throughout the set.
  • Up-Down — Paired exercises that combine a standing movement with a ground movement for full-body engagement.

You can also use "Mixed" to combine different set types within a single workout.

What does the Boxing Bag toggle do?

+

When enabled, exercises that can be performed on a bag will show bag-specific descriptions and techniques. When disabled, those same exercises are described as shadowboxing movements or use light dumbbells instead. The exercise selection stays the same — only the descriptions change.

Can I customize my workout duration?

+

Yes. Available durations are 15, 30, 45, 60, 75, 90, 105, and 120 minutes. You can also adjust set duration (3, 4, or 5 minutes per set) and rest periods between sets.

What are focus modes?

+

Focus modes let you bias the exercise selection toward a specific training goal:

  • Balanced — Even mix of boxing, kickboxing, and bodyweight exercises.
  • Boxing Heavy — More boxing combos and punches. Great for upper body.
  • Kickboxing Heavy — More kicks and kickboxing combos. Great for legs.
  • Core — Emphasis on core-strengthening exercises.
  • Cardio — High-intensity cardio focus for maximum calorie burn.
  • Technique — Basic techniques for form practice and learning.

What are warm-up, running, and jump rope intervals?

+

These are optional additions to your workout:

  • Warm-up — A dedicated warm-up set at the beginning of your workout. Options include stretching and mobility exercises, a running warm-up, or a jump rope warm-up.
  • Running intervals — 3-minute running sessions placed between exercise sets for cardio conditioning.
  • Jump rope intervals — 3-minute jump rope sessions as an alternative to running for cardio.

You can configure how many running or jump rope intervals to include and whether to place the final one at the end as a finishing burst.

Workout Preview

Can I preview my workout before starting?

+

Yes. After generating a workout, you'll see the full Workout Preview screen showing every set, exercise, rep count, and timing. You can review the entire session before tapping "Start Workout."

Can I swap exercises in a workout?

+

Yes. On the Workout Preview screen, tap the refresh icon next to any exercise to swap it for a different one of the same type. This lets you fine-tune your workout before starting.

During a Workout

How does voice coaching work?

+

Voice coaching provides audio guidance throughout your workout. It announces exercise names, counts down transitions, calls out rep counts, and alerts you to stance switches and halfway points — so you can train without looking at your phone. You can tap on any exercise during the workout to see its full technique description.

Can I change the voice or switch to beeps?

+

Yes. In Settings > Countdown Mode, you can switch between:

  • Voice — A coach voice that announces exercises and counts down. You can choose from four voices: Adam (American male), Sarah (American female), George (British male), and Alice (British female).
  • Beeps — Simple beep sounds for countdowns and transitions, with no voice announcements.

What are halfway announcements?

+

When enabled, you'll hear an audio cue at the midpoint of each exercise. This is helpful for exercises that switch sides (e.g., "Switch stance" at the halfway mark of a jab combination) or simply to let you know you're halfway through.

Can I swap exercises during a workout?

+

Yes. When the Reroll Exercises setting is enabled in Settings, a refresh icon appears during rest periods. Tap it to swap the upcoming exercise for a different one without stopping your workout.

Can I pause or skip during a workout?

+

Yes. During a workout you can pause at any time. You can also skip to the next set if you want to move on.

This is useful for creating local backups or sharing your data outside the app.
